Odnoklassniki

Platform · this deep dive is built from the official pages of the platform itself and of the tools that support it.

Overview

Odnoklassniki (OK) is a Russian social network that belongs to the VK holding. It is built around a personal profile and groups: groups have a feed, topics, photo albums, a video player, a "Goods" section, a rating and monetization programmes of their own (the list of help sections about groups).

The main practical feature: the audience here is noticeably older, and the platform bets on that itself. OK's official blog says that its core users are people aged 35 and over, that about half of the audience are older users, and that "the 55+ audience accounts for more than half of all spending on the social network". This is the platform's own claim rather than an independent measurement, but it explains who it makes sense to work here for.

The second feature: creators are paid under published rules with specific thresholds — OK has separate regulations for the creator and video monetization programmes, with revision dates. The third is technical: a significant share of pages is assembled by a script in the browser, so parts of the help section can only be read partially. Where that got in our way, we say so directly.

Who's here

The audience figure is published by the holding. In its press release on the results of the first quarter of 2026 VK reports that the average monthly audience of Odnoklassniki was 33 million users. There is no separate daily audience figure for OK in that release. The same place gives activity figures: users exchanged more than a billion cards and stickers and sent 18.2 billion virtual gifts — 24% more year on year.

Geography: the VK Ads help describes Odnoklassniki as "a social network from VK bringing together users in 220 countries" (ads.vk.ru/help/features/placements). The platform gives no breakdown by country on any publicly accessible page, so "220 countries" should be read as a claim about presence, not about the distribution of the audience.

Languages: the switcher on the legal documents page offers 14 interface languages — Russian, English, Belarusian, Georgian, Ukrainian, Tatar, Kazakh, Armenian, Uzbek, Romanian (separately for Moldova and Romania), Turkish, Tajik, Kyrgyz and German (ok.ru/agreementpage). That is the set of interface languages, not the share of users who speak them.

The age profile and the structure of spending are described by the platform in its own blog (insideok.ru) — see the "Overview" section.

Getting started

Registration is described in the help section "Registration", but the articles themselves are assembled by a script: we got the list of topics, not their texts. We were unable to confirm the age requirements and the confirmation method from an open source.

For a business and for a creator the entry point is a group. The help section "Group settings" lists what can be configured: administration rights, privacy, the main photo and the cover, posting on behalf of the group, banning members from inviting people and creating topics, pre-moderation of topics, disabling comments, showing only administration posts in the feed, the link, the name and the description.

The "Official page" badge is described by the platform in its own blog (a piece dated 1 March 2025): the badge is intended for media personalities, bloggers, popular brands and large organizations. Before submitting an application the blog recommends turning on two-factor protection for your personal profile, and for groups — for the profiles of all administrators, publishing at least 10–15 posts and updating them at least once a week, and adding links to your website and accounts on other social networks. The application is submitted via a form in Jira; if refused, you can apply again.

What you can publish

A group's formats are feed posts, topics, photo albums, video via the built-in player and goods (the help sections).

The platform words its video requirements like this: "the video must be in a supported format, such as MP4 or MOV", "a resolution of at least 720p and an aspect ratio of 16:9, 4:3 or 1:1", the sound "must be clear and free of distortion or background noise" (ok.ru/help/trebovaniya-k-kachestvu-video). There are no duration limits on that page.

A separate document is the "Unified criteria for content monetization on OK". Its navigation page lists the categories that cost material its right to monetization: borrowed content, clickbait, false and unlawful information, explicit, shocking and tragic content, coarse language, spam, hate speech and the promotion of violence, gambling, lotteries and prize promotions, medicine and pharmaceuticals, prohibited goods and services, goods and services harmful to health, as well as quality requirements for photos and video.

By spam the platform means (ok.ru/help/spam) mass actions often used to send advertising messages; fraudulent offers; links to malicious sites; messages and posts that are "duplicated many times"; posts unrelated to the group's subject and material that "carries no particular value for the user".

Native advertising in a group is allowed, but with requirements (ok.ru/help/trebovaniya-k-nativnoi-reklame): it "must not be obviously advertising in character", "must not disguise itself as news", and its texts "must not give the post elements of virality: polls, calls to 'Hit Klass', 'Share this post'". Placing external links in native advertising is prohibited, and internal ones must lead to the object being promoted; claims require "supporting information (a link to research/surveys, clinical studies)".

How to grow

Group rating

The platform describes a rating of its own for groups. Its components, according to the help section, are "Activity", "Engagement", "Diversity" and "Approval", and one of the section's questions is titled exactly "How does the Rating affect feed distribution and a group's success?". The platform does not publish the calculation formula, and the texts of the individual articles in the section are script-driven and did not open for us.

The section "Growing your group" collects the platform's recommendations: promoting posts, gaining an audience, content moderation, impression statistics, interactive mechanics (quizzes, apps) and the "Goods" section. The platform lists its set of promo mechanics in its own blog (insideok.ru): frames for avatars, interactive promo posts in the feed, scheduled posts, mini-apps, virtual gifts and display advertising. Scheduling is a native feature of the platform, not something only external services provide.

Advertising

Advertising on OK is bought in the shared VK Ads dashboard: Odnoklassniki is on the list of placement venues (ads.vk.ru/help/features/placements), where an advertising post with a picture or video is placed among feed entries. The minimum budget threshold is the same across the dashboard: "the minimum value of both the daily and the total limit is 300 roubles" (ads.vk.ru/help/general/start/budget_limits).

Path to monetization

OK does pay creators, and the terms are published with figures.

The creator monetization programme

The current revision of the rules is dated 25.05.2026 (ok.ru/help/pravila-programmy-monetizacii-avtorov). Thresholds for a group: at least 1000 members; growth of at least 200 people over the last month; at least 50% active members a month; at least 30% of members viewing content over a month; fewer than 30% of posts with external links; no more than 1% of posts from users. The reward "is calculated on the basis of the number of impressions of Creative Content together with Advertising and Information Materials" and is credited within 3 working days after the end of the month.

The same document lists the subjects for which the programme is closed: charity, politics, religion, erotica, music and film (except reviews), classified ads, the sale of goods and services, educational organizations, official state institutions.

The application is submitted by a group's administrator via a special form; the system automatically checks compliance with the criteria, the decision arrives in private messages, and final approval is given by the OK team (ok.ru/help/kak-vstupit-v-programmu-monetizacii-avtorov).

The video monetization programme

A separate regulation, dated 12.12.2025 (ok.ru/help/pravila-programmy-monetizacii-video). The requirements: at least 1000 group members; "the presence of one or more videos with a combined total of more than 10,000 views over the last calendar month before the moment the Application is submitted"; an open group; fewer than 30% of posts with external links; fewer than 1% of posts from users. For the video itself: "the running time of the Video Content — from 1 minute", originality, and a ban on advertising goods and services. The reward is calculated on views of the video content and credited no later than 3 working days after the end of the month.

Other methods and payouts

The platform's summary page "How to earn from blogging" (ok.ru/page/how-to-make-money-bloging) lists six methods: monetization in the feed, video monetization, paid access and paid content (a subscription or a one-off payment), donations, donations in live streams and the "Goods" section. For donations it gives a withdrawal minimum — 400 roubles in the account.

Money is withdrawn through the Payouts Dashboard — "VK's official tool for receiving income from monetization", which brings together all connected sources across VK services (ok.ru/help/chto-takoe-kabinet-vyplat). The withdrawal terms (ok.ru/help/kogda-mojno-vyvodit-nakoplennye-sredstva-iz-kabineta-vyplat): earnings are credited once for a calendar month and become available for withdrawal at the start of the next one; the minimum sum is 500 roubles; legal entities and sole traders withdraw 3 times a month (on the 10th, the 20th and the last day), the self-employed at any time; the money is transferred to the settlement account of a legal entity or sole trader or to the bank account of a self-employed person. The legal status requirement matters here: there is no payout method for an ordinary private individual on that page.

For game developers

A separate scheme is rewarded in-game advertising (apiok.ru/apps/features/ads): the user watches a clip in exchange for in-game currency and the developer receives a reward for the impression, and moreover "the user must always have a choice whether to watch the advertisement or to decline". An important detail: "ad impressions to users will not be counted until you have concluded a contract" — what was earned before signing is not recoverable. Non-residents are invited to ask about terms through the game's moderation ticket.

Tools and automation

The official API

The developer portal (apiok.ru) lists: widgets for websites (the "Klass" button, content publishing, profiles, a group widget), a gaming platform with hosting, OAuth authorization, payments and subscriptions, in-game advertising and group applications. Methods are called over REST via GET and POST; there is a Graph API, error handling, a section on application limits and service verification (apiok.ru/dev/methods/). The method groups: applications, authorization, users, friends, communities and groups, photos, video, messages, payments, search, media topics, statistics (apiok.ru/dev/methods/rest).

OK's policy on limits is unusually mild. The documentation writes outright: "for practically all REST methods there are no restrictions on the number and frequency of calls" — individual limits are assigned only if an application negatively affects the operation of the API, and then the error FLOOD_BLOCKED is returned (apiok.ru/dev/limits). Notifications are strictly limited: a user can have up to 6 notifications from an application at once (5 mass and 1 personal), the mass-sending method is limited to 30 calls a day, and the counter resets at 4:00. The same place describes a 32-bit user mask for segmenting mailings.

Third-party services

Support for Odnoklassniki is claimed on their own pages by Onlypult (the platform page: text of up to 32,000 characters with a counter in the editor, up to 10 photos or videos in a post, automatic publishing at a set time) and SMMplanner (the home page names OK among the supported networks and specifies: "With these social networks we work through their official APIs").

These are the services' claims about themselves.

Limits and rules

The legal documents are gathered on a single page (ok.ru/agreementpage): the licence agreement, the privacy policy, the Cookie Policy, the rules on the application of recommendation technologies, the rules for posting in the "Hobbies" section, the rules for handling complaints about the distribution of information in breach of the law, and the standards for protecting children's rights. The texts of the documents themselves are not placed on the page — only links. The "rules on the application of recommendation technologies" were brought about by Russian regulation; the international platforms in our registry have no such document.

Groups do have a sanctions mechanism: the help section "The group is blocked" contains questions about what to do when blocked, whether a moderator can find out the reason and what penalty points are. The article texts are script-driven and did not open for us, so we quote no grounds and no timeframes.

Legal status limits payouts: withdrawing funds is described only for legal entities, sole traders and the self-employed. For in-game advertising, terms for non-residents are not published separately — you are invited to clarify them in the moderation ticket.

Who it's for

The platform suits you if your audience is older than the Russian internet average: that is its main distinction, and the platform says so itself. It suits media outlets and creators for whom predictability matters: the monetization thresholds are published as figures, the regulations carry revision dates, and the minimum withdrawal sum is known. It suits a developer who needs a high call rate: OK's policy on limits is noticeably more liberal than those of its neighbours in the ecosystem.

It does not suit you if you are a private individual without self-employed, sole trader or legal entity status and are counting on payouts. It does not suit groups in subjects closed to the programme — from politics and religion to selling goods and educational organizations. And it does not suit you if you need to study the rules quickly from publicly accessible pages: a significant share of the help section is assembled by a script and cannot be read statically.

Account and access

A compulsory check when creating a profile: you need a phone number not yet linked to another OK page, and you enter a code from an SMS. Verbatim from the help centre: «Для регистрации понадобится номер телефона, который ещё не указан на страницах в ОК» (our translation: registration requires a phone number not already given on pages in OK) and «Одноклассники могут запросить номер телефона или код из SMS в нескольких случаях: при создании аккаунта; при смене номера, который привязан к странице ...; при удалении профиля ...; при покупке ОКов» (our translation: Odnoklassniki may request a phone number or an SMS code in several cases: when creating an account; when changing the number linked to the page; when deleting a profile; when buying OKs). An alternative is named in the same place: «Зарегистрироваться можно и без телефона, через другие сервисы, где у вас есть аккаунт» (our translation: you can also register without a phone, through other services where you have an account) — through VK ID, Mail or Yandex

This is a check at entry rather than the unlocking of deferred features: the OK help centre does not say that confirming the phone opens anything that was closed before it. The quotations are verbatim from the articles «What is a profile on Odnoklassniki?» (updated 12.08.2025), «How do I create a page on Odnoklassniki?» (updated 03.04.2026) and «What to do if Odnoklassniki asks for a phone number?» (updated 30.04.2026)

How the money works here

for game developers there is rewarded in-game advertising: for watching a clip the user receives in-game currency or bonuses, and the developer a reward for the impression. This is monetization of the APPLICATION, not its promotion on the platform

The platform pays game developers, not content creators — a distinction that matters to the reader

source, checked 2026-07-28

ad impressions ARE NOT COUNTED until a contract has been concluded, and no reward at all is paid for impressions made before it was concluded. The contract is concluded via a link for residents of the Russian Federation; non-residents are invited to apply through the game's moderation ticket

Languages

the interface language of the home page: ru

The language is taken from the markup attribute, the versions from hreflang

the switcher offers 16 interface languages: Russian, English, Belarusian, Georgian, Ukrainian, Tatar, Kazakh, Armenian, Uzbek, Romanian (Moldova), Azerbaijani, Romanian (Romania), Turkish, Tajik, Kyrgyz and German

The set of languages describes the platform's coverage better than its country of registration: two separate entries for Romanian — Moldova and Romania

the switcher on the legal documents page offers 14 interface languages: Russian, English, Belarusian, Georgian, Ukrainian, Tatar, Kazakh, Armenian, Uzbek, Romanian (Moldova and Romania), Turkish, Tajik, Kyrgyz, German

DISCREPANCY with the earlier database record (16 languages as of 27.07.2026): on re-reading on 28.07 the count was 14. The cause of the discrepancy has not been established — possibly a different split of Romanian and a different counting method

metrics

OK deliberately does not call impressions impressions, verbatim: ««Отрисовки» — количество загрузок контента в ленту» (our translation: «renderings» — the number of times content is loaded into the feed) and «Поскольку нельзя утверждать, что пользователь видел пост, в статистике ОК этот показатель называется именно «отрисовки», а не «показы»» (our translation: since it cannot be asserted that the user saw the post, in OK's statistics this metric is called precisely «renderings» rather than «impressions»)

insideok.ru is Odnoklassniki's own official media project; in the API documentation (apiok.ru/dev/methods/rest/group/group.getStatTrends) the fields renderings/reach/engagement are listed with no textual definitions; the quotations were checked against the HTML

Verbatim: «Охват — число пользователей, которым хотя бы раз был показан контент из группы» (our translation: reach — the number of users who were shown content from the group at least once); it is counted in unique users and split into two parts: «теперь охват делится на участников группы и людей вне сообщества» (our translation: reach is now divided into members of the group and people outside the community)

In the API the group corresponds to the fields reach, reach_own, reach_earned, reach_mob, reach_web and others (apiok.ru, group.getStatTrends)

Verbatim: «Вовлеченность — число тех, кто заходил в группу, открывал контент или оставлял обратную связь» (our translation: engagement — the number of those who visited the group, opened content or left feedback); the engagement rate, verbatim: «Рассчитывается как среднее по дням за последнюю неделю по формуле: (комментарии + «классы!» + поделились) * 100 / количество участников» (our translation: calculated as a daily average over the last week by the formula (comments + «likes» + shares) * 100 / number of members); separately «Обратная связь — число людей, которые хотя бы раз комментировали, ставили «Класс!» или поделились контентом» (our translation: feedback — the number of people who at least once commented, liked or shared content)

Engagement is counted «in people» (unique); it also includes opening a topic and listening to music and video — «было решено учитывать все вместе, а не только стандартные метрики, входящие в обратную связь» (our translation: it was decided to count everything together rather than only the standard metrics that make up feedback)
