Udio

Tool · this deep dive is built from the official pages of the platform itself and of the tools that support it.

Overview

Udio is a music generator. A track is made from a text description or a style sample; further declared are Extend, remix, Inpaint for editing a fragment, editing of music and lyrics, Sessions — a timeline editor, Styles and the Style Library, Voices (singing in a chosen voice), uploading your own audio as a base (subscribers only) and a cover. The operator is named in the terms: Uncharted Labs, Inc., New York.

Languages are described nowhere: a list of vocal, prompt or interface languages is neither in the terms nor in the help centre, and about Russian, Arabic, Hindi and Chinese nothing is said.

Which platforms it works with

With none, and this is not an omission but a prohibition: distributing the output on streaming platforms and user generated content platforms the terms do not allow, and downloading of audio, video and stems is, by the help centre, disabled.

One way of sharing is permitted — exchanging hyperlinks on third-party services approved in writing, including social networks and messengers; the approval is revoked at any moment.

Clients: web, including mobile web, and an iOS app, where the Voices feature is unavailable.

Pricing

The pricing page opens, but loads its plan table with a Stripe script and gives no prices. One sum is nevertheless named, and named as an example — in the help article on the trial: "They are immediately charged the full price for an annual subscription (e.g., $96 + tax in the U.S.)". That is annual Standard, 96 USD plus tax; a monthly price is not in what was read.

There are two subscriptions, and they differ by credits: the help centre says "With our Standard subscription, you can use up to 2400 credits per month. With our Pro subscription, you can use up to 6000 credits per month". The limits were raised on 29 October 2025 under the partnership with Universal Music Group — they were 1200 and 4800. There is no trial period for Pro.

What is free

A free account is counted by two counters: "You have an allotment of 10 daily credits" plus a monthly limit of 100 credits; the credits do not carry over. On top of them lies a restriction on long tracks: "When on a free account, you can only create three 130-second songs per day, regardless of how many credits you have".

Uploading audio is unavailable to a free account: "The Audio upload feature is available only for paid subscribers". A seven-day one-off trial of Standard raises neither the credit limit nor the three-songs-a-day restriction.

Restrictions

Credits are spent in pairs of generations. Verbatim from the help centre: "Each set of two 32-second songs costs two credits", "Each set of two 130-second songs costs four credits"; Trim is free.

Limits: a free account — 10 credits a day and 100 a month, Standard — up to 2400 a month, Pro — up to 6000. Credits do not carry over: "The credits don't rollover from month to month"; the exception is credits bought separately, which are perpetual. On cancellation or a failed payment the account returns to the free limits.

Rights to the output

The restriction is the same on every plan. The terms of the 12.11.2025 edition, clause 1.2: "You may not download copies of any Output or any other output generated by the Services". There too is the ban on reproducing, transmitting, displaying, publishing and distributing the output on any personal device and "on any streaming platform or user generated content platform (e.g., YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Spotify, Soundcloud and similar platforms)".

Differences between Standard and Pro in rights are not in what was read: a subscription raises the limits but does not open a way out.

Do they train on your data

They do, and it is said directly. The terms, clause 1.1: "You acknowledge and agree that we may use your Input Content and any Output to train or otherwise improve our Services, including our artificial intelligence and machine learnings model(s) related to the Services" (the source's spelling preserved).

Input Content means prompts, instructions, lyrics and uploaded audio files, Output is the result itself: training covers both sides of the work. The user warrants that the rights to what is uploaded are theirs, including for use "to create Output and/or train, develop, fine-tune or otherwise improve the Services".

No opt-out is provided: the only opt-out in the document relates to the arbitration clause, not to data.

How you earn with it

You cannot earn on Udio's output.

First: downloading the result is not possible at all — "You may not download copies of any Output or any other output generated by the Services".

Second: posting the result on YouTube, Spotify, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and Soundcloud is forbidden by name and on every plan.

Third: commercial exploitation is forbidden by a separate clause of the terms — "exploit the Services, any Output, or the outputs of other users for any commercial purpose".

Neither Standard nor Pro removes these bans. For an SMM catalogue the conclusion is direct: this is a tool with no way out.

What it will not do

Upload your own voice it will not let you at all. The help article on Voices: "you cannot upload your own voice as a source at this time, nor can you use a voice from a Udio song that's associated with uploaded audio". The source of a voice is limited to the Voices library and your own native generations — other people's songs as a source are closed too.

Someone else's audio for Extend, Remix and Style it will not accept: "By uploading, you confirm that you own the rights to the audio". In the "Totally cool" section — your own instrument recordings, original music, recorded nature sounds; in "No no no" — commercial music and any sound without rights.

Let you impersonate another it will not: forbidden is to "impersonate, or attempt to impersonate, somebody else using the Services without their authorization"; a separate mention of public figures there is none.

Unlawful, defamatory, obscene, excessively violent, pornographic, privacy-invading, harassing, threatening, hateful and deceptive content is forbidden by clause 1.4. The user's age is 16 and over.

Mark a track as machine-made it does not promise: neither an audio mark, nor a watermark, nor metadata, nor C2PA is in what was read — the question is settled by the file not going out.

Verified data

The checked data this deep dive rests on.

Pricing

A free account: «You have an allotment of 10 daily credits» plus an additional monthly limit of 100 credits (verbatim); credits do not carry over and the limits reset at the start of the following month. A hard restriction on long tracks: «When on a free account, you can only create three 130-second songs per day, regardless of how many credits you have» (verbatim). Uploading your own audio is paid: «The Audio upload feature is available only for paid subscribers». Separately there is a one-time seven-day trial of the Standard subscription, which does NOT raise the credit limit and does NOT lift the three-two-minute-songs-a-day restriction

The conditions of the trial period are at https://help.udio.com/en/articles/13338649-the-subscription-trial and the fact that audio upload is paid at https://help.udio.com/en/articles/10754328-create-music-with-your-own-audio

Two subscriptions: Standard and Pro. «With our Standard subscription, you can use up to 2400 credits per month. With our Pro subscription, you can use up to 6000 credits per month» (verbatim). The limits were raised on 29.10.2025 as part of a partnership with Universal Music Group (they were 1200 and 4800); at the same time subscribers were given a one-off 1000 non-expiring credits, and Pro gained five concurrent generation sets instead of four. There is no trial for Pro. The udio.com/pricing page does not deliver the monetary amounts in the server's response — the price table is loaded by a Stripe script

The changes from the UMG partnership are at https://help.udio.com/en/articles/12683565-changes-associated-with-the-universal-music-group-umg-partnership; at udio.com/pricing there is not a single price in the HTML

96 USD a year plus tax — the annual Standard subscription; the figure is named in an example in a help article: «They are immediately charged the full price for an annual subscription (e.g., $96 + tax in the U.S.)» (verbatim). A monthly price does not appear in what was read

This is an example from the service's own help centre, not a price table; the pricing page does not deliver the amounts

Limits and restrictions

Credits are deducted in pairs of generations: «Each set of two 32-second songs costs two credits», «Each set of two 130-second songs costs four credits» (verbatim); Trim is free. Limits: a free account — 10 a day and 100 a month; Standard — up to 2400 a month; Pro — up to 6000 a month. Subscription and free-account credits do not carry over and are zeroed monthly: «The credits don't rollover from month to month». Separately purchased credits (a la carte) never expire and do carry over. On cancellation or a failed payment the account reverts to the free limits. A free account and an account on trial are limited to three 130-second songs a day

Restrictions

WHOSE VOICE: you CANNOT upload your own voice AT ALL. The help article on the Voices feature verbatim: «the Voices feature can only use voices from the Voices library or native Udio songs; you cannot upload your own voice as a source at this time, nor can you use a voice from a Udio song that's associated with uploaded audio». A voice from other people's songs is also unavailable for Voices — you may not take «Songs crafted on Udio by creators other than yourself». So the source of a voice is limited to the service's library and the user's own native generations. Uploading audio for Extend, Remix and Style is allowed only for what the user owns: «By uploading, you confirm that you own the rights to the audio» (verbatim); under «Totally cool» — your own instrument recordings, original music, recorded nature sounds; under «No no no» — commercial music and copyrighted tracks, any sound you have no rights to. THE BAN ON IMPERSONATION: the terms forbid you to «impersonate, or attempt to impersonate, somebody else using the Services without their authorization» (verbatim), including submitting Input Content you have no right to and attempting to obtain Output imitating another person. There is no separate mention of public figures. FORBIDDEN TOPICS (clause 1.4): unlawful, defamatory, rights-infringing, obscene, excessively violent, pornographic content, content invading privacy and the right of publicity, harassing, threatening, abusive, hateful, cruel or deceptive content. The user must be 16 or over

The audio upload rules are at https://help.udio.com/en/articles/10754328-create-music-with-your-own-audio, and the ban on impersonation and the list of topics in the Terms of Service at https://www.udio.com/terms-of-service

THE HARSHEST RESTRICTION IN THIS SET, AND IT IS THE SAME ON ALL PLANS. Terms of Service (rev. 12.11.2025), clause 1.2 verbatim: «You may not download copies of any Output or any other output generated by the Services», plus an undertaking not to reproduce, transmit, display, publish or distribute the output «on any personal device or on any streaming platform or user generated content platform (e.g., YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Spotify, Soundcloud and similar platforms)». Only the exchange of hyperlinks on third-party services approved in writing is allowed, and approval may be revoked at any moment. The restrictions section separately forbids you to «exploit the Services, any Output, or the outputs of other users for any commercial purpose» (verbatim). The help centre confirms the practice: «Note that downloading of audio, video, and stems has been disabled» (verbatim). There is no difference between Standard and Pro on these rights in what was read

The disabling of downloads after the UMG partnership is confirmed at https://help.udio.com/en/articles/12683565-changes-associated-with-the-universal-music-group-umg-partnership

source, checked 2026-08-07

YES, stated directly. Terms of Service clause 1.1 verbatim: «You acknowledge and agree that we may use your Input Content and any Output to train or otherwise improve our Services, including our artificial intelligence and machine learnings model(s) related to the Services» (the source's spelling preserved). Input Content means prompts, instructions, song lyrics and uploaded audio files. The user separately warrants that they hold all rights to what they upload, including for its use «to create Output and/or train, develop, fine-tune or otherwise improve the Services»

Training covers both the data entered and the generated result
