Sightengine

Tool · this deep dive is built from the official pages of the platform itself and of the tools that support it.

Overview

Sightengine is a programming interface for checking images, video and texts. The self-description word for word: "Powerful APIs to assess, filter and moderate photos, videos and texts. Instantly detect nudity, violence, offensive content with our easy-to-use API, at a fraction of the cost of human moderation" (homepage). This is the tool's own claim about itself, not an independent assessment.

One part of the quotation requires a separate reservation. "At a fraction of the cost of human moderation" is a statement about price in which there is not a single figure: neither its own, nor the one it is being compared with. There is nothing to check it against, and no conclusions about a saving may be drawn from it. The words "powerful", "instantly" and "easy-to-use" are likewise the tool's assessments of itself.

The tool's place in the scheme of work determines everything else: it is embedded into your product and processes the content that you pass to it. To your accounts in social networks it does not connect.

The interface language of the homepage is en, and two language versions are declared: en and fr. Among the tools of this batch that is a rarity — for most of them no language versions are declared at all.

Which platforms it works with

Specific social platforms as supported integrations are not named (moderation page). No integrations page or list of platforms was found on the site.

This corresponds to how the tool is built: it works with arbitrary user content — with what has been passed to it, regardless of origin. An image from your application and an image from a social network are the same to it, because both are received from you rather than fetched by it.

The practical conclusion: linking Sightengine to an Instagram or TikTok account "in one click" is not something the sources we checked promise. The work presupposes a product of your own and a developer who will call the interface. A direct statement about implementation requirements is, however, also absent from the open pages.

How you earn with it

An affiliate programme is not announced. Checked were /affiliate, /affiliates, /affiliate-program, /partners, /referral, /partner-program — all six addresses return 404. In the footer of the homepage there are only products, models, the interface, sections about the company and use cases; there is no mention of a programme (homepage).

One reservation about the completeness of this check: a sitemap is not declared in robots.txt, so inspecting the composition of the site as a whole, as was done with some of its neighbours, did not work. The check was run by addresses and by the footer, not by a full list of pages.

What it will not do

Connecting to social networks and moderating the comments under your posts is not something it claims. Not a single platform is named in the sources we checked, and an integrations page does not exist.

Working without a product of your own is not what it is designed for: what is processed is what you pass to it, not what it finds by itself.

The tool does not publish plans, the make-up of a free tier or limits — the number of calls, the volume of content, the speed of processing — and that is especially noticeable against its own promise to cost "a fraction of the cost of human moderation": the comparison remains words as long as there is no price.

Paying for a referred client is not something it offers: the six checked addresses do not exist, and there are no links in the footer.
