Perspective API

Tool · this deep dive is built from the official pages of the platform itself and of the tools that support it.

Overview

Perspective API describes itself like this: "Perspective API is a free developer tool that helps platforms host conversations that flourish — on their own terms" (homepage). That is a self-description, not an independent assessment.

The make-up of the product can be seen from it: this is a tool for developers, that is, a programming interface that is embedded into other people's products. It is addressed to platforms rather than to people running accounts, and it helps them manage discussions "on their own terms" — the caveat about the platform's own terms belongs to the source.

In our catalogue the tool stands in the section of moderation tools. But the main thing to know about it today is not its make-up but its term: the tool is shutting down. That is covered below, and almost the whole of its site now says the same.

The interface language is not stated in the markup at all — both the lang attribute and the hreflang links have been checked. This is neither "a site in English" nor "a site with no language": it is an absence of a declaration. In what languages the checking of texts itself works, the source does not report either.

The address https://developers.perspectiveapi.com/s/ was found on the homepage by the "dev" mark in the address itself, not by the link's caption; the page is served by a script and is empty without a browser, so whether it is documentation cannot be learned from outside.

Which platforms it works with

There is not a single list of platforms. This is not a gap in the collection but a property of the product: Perspective API is a programming interface embedded into other people's products, and it has no "supported platforms" in the usual sense. It works wherever a developer has embedded it.

Today the homepage consists entirely of the shutdown announcement, so looking for lists on it is pointless: there are none there.

What is free

The tool calls itself free right in its self-description: "a free developer tool". The source gives no plans, no tiers and no currencies.

About the limits of that free status — the number of requests, the rate, the terms for large consumers — nothing is said. The word "free" stands in the description, and no conditions are given behind it.

Restrictions

The main restriction is announced by the tool itself and runs like this: "Perspective API is sunsetting and service is officially ending after 2026". The announcement names no exact date: it says "after 2026".

As of the date of this check — 5 August 2026 — less than five months remain until the end of operation, if counted by the end of the year. This is our own calculation from the date announced by the tool, not its claim.

What will happen after the shutdown the announcement does not explain: there is nothing about a move to another product, about a replacement, or about the fate of embedded solutions on the site. For anyone choosing a moderation tool now, this fact is enough to stop reading here.

How you earn with it

There is no affiliate programme and none is to be expected: this is a free programming interface from Google Jigsaw, and one that is shutting down after 2026 at that. There is nothing to pay a commission on — there is no paid product.

The footer of the homepage has been read in full: it contains only Privacy, Site Terms, API Terms, Developers, Medium and Jigsaw. There are no mentions of a programme there. The site has no robots.txt file at all.

What it will not do

It will not work after 2026 — by the tool's own announcement. This is a direct statement by the tool, and it outweighs everything else in this deep dive.

It does not undertake to publish, to schedule or to count statistics: this is a tool for moderating discussions, embedded into other people's products.

  • a list of platforms is absent by the make-up of the product;
  • the languages of the texts checked are not named;
  • the limits of free use — the number of requests, the rate — are not named;
  • the terms and the make-up of the programming interface — the documentation page is empty without a browser;
  • what to do after the shutdown — nothing is said.

Verified data

The checked data this deep dive rests on.

About the platform

the platform describes itself as follows: «Perspective API is a free developer tool that helps platforms host conversations that flourish - on their own terms.»

Self-description: this is the platform's claim about itself, not an independent assessment

source, checked 2026-07-28

the tool is shutting down: "Perspective API is sunsetting and service is officially ending after 2026"; "The API will no longer be in service after 2026, and we will not be offering direct migration support"

an announcement on the home page; the source names the term "after 2026" and gives no exact date — "31 December" would be our inference, not a quotation

API access

the address https://developers.perspectiveapi.com/s/ was found on the home page by the «api/dev» marker in the address; the page is served by a script and is empty without a browser, so whether it is documentation has not been verified

CORRECTED the previous version declared any address containing the word api or dev found on the home page to be a developer section. All 57 such records were checked by opening the address: 24 turned out to be documentation. See data/technical/dev-links-verified.tsv and docs/research/S195-догадка-по-адресу.md
