Kandua

Platform · this deep dive is built from the official pages of the platform itself and of the tools that support it.

Overview

Kandua is a South African home services platform: a homeowner describes a problem, the platform matches them with a pro, and from there the quote, approval and payment all happen inside the service. Kandua describes itself like this: a South African home services marketplace that connects homeowners with vetted pros who have passed a background check.

For a pro this is not a listing in a directory but a working dashboard. The help centre for providers puts it plainly: the Kandua marketplace is your digital storefront, which helps you find new customers, win more jobs and grow your business in your area. The legal entity is named in the terms: Plus Eco System Ventures (Pty) Ltd, trading as Kandua, head office — 9 Somerset Rd, Green Point, Cape Town 8001. The platform states that it is now part of the Santam group — a South African insurer.

An important caveat from the terms: Kandua does not itself provide the pros' services or supply goods related to them; the work is done by the pros, and all contracts are concluded between the customer and the pro.

Who's here

All the figures below are Kandua's claims about itself, with no reference to an independent measurement and no date. On its "About" page the platform states: 85,000+ reviews, a 4.6 average rating, 100% vetted pros, R50m+ of work opportunities created, 85,000+ jobs completed. The platform's machine-readable index adds one more figure to the same set: more than 40,000 pros have used Kandua to grow their business. The page for pros also reports 150k+ quotes and invoices sent.

The geography is South Africa. The index lists the metros and suburbs served: Cape Town, Bellville, Durbanville, Parklands, Johannesburg, Sandton, Bryanston, Fourways, Randburg, Roodepoort, Sunninghill, Soweto, Midrand, Centurion, Pretoria, Alberton, Benoni, Boksburg, Edendale, Kempton Park and Vanderbijlpark. The help centre for pros, meanwhile, gives a narrow list: we currently serve Cape Town, Johannesburg and Pretoria. We have recorded this discrepancy separately and leave it as it stands: the platform's own sources say different things. The home page interface language is English.

Getting started

The requirements for a pro are described in the help centre. Anyone can join who is over 18 and provides home services; to receive leads you need the legal right to work in South Africa, the necessary professional qualification and confirmed bank details. The timings are stated like this: after registration, verification usually takes 2 to 4 working days once all the documents have been submitted.

The list of documents is specific, and differs for an individual pro and for a company. For an individual: an identity document or passport, proof of address, a Huru criminal record check. For a company: business registration, proof of insurance with minimum cover of R5m, including fire, theft, public liability and defective workmanship at the client's premises; a company profile with photographs of staff in branded uniform, images of vehicles, pictures of tools and a detailed description of the services; documents for all directors.

The steps on the platform itself are described in three points: create a free account and pass verification, add a document, a photograph and basic details, and after verification receive jobs — accept them, issue a quote and get to work. Training is promised: an onboarding call, digital materials and in-app prompts (the last of these "coming soon").

But there is an obstacle you need to know about before filling in an application. The help centre for pros states: we are not accepting new applications at the moment; onboarding of new pros is temporarily paused while we make changes, and we will get in touch when we are ready to take on new ones. The article is dated 3 June 2026. The "Join as a Pro" form on the site, meanwhile, continues to invite applications.

What you can publish

Kandua is not a platform for posts. A pro's public content is a profile, a portfolio and reviews, not a feed. The platform's index describes the approach: a homeowner is connected with a single best-matched pro, rather than having their contact details sold to a dozen competing companies; on the page for pros the same thing is put more briefly — only one pro per customer.

What exactly goes into a profile is set by the list of documents: photographs of staff in uniform, pictures of vehicles and tools, service descriptions, and for companies with branches — separate profiles per branch with vehicles, tools, staff and their certificates. Uploaded documents, the help centre assures you, are stored securely and are not disclosed publicly.

Services are limited to categories. The index names as live electricians and plumbers, and in the "coming soon" list gives access control, builders, carpenters, flooring, handymen, locksmiths, painters, pool maintenance, rubbish removal, tilers and welders. The site navigation, though, already shows a handyman and a painter among the available services, while the help centre for pros states that electrical and plumbing services are currently supported.

How to grow

There is no feed algorithm here — there is lead distribution. Kandua does not publish the exact matching rules: the index describes the mechanics qualitatively, through the AI assistant Jess, who holds a short structured diagnostic conversation to understand and describe the job before it reaches a pro, and then connects the customer with the nearest highly rated, qualified and vetted pro.

What actually affects the flow of jobs, by the platform's own description:

There is no ad dashboard of its own, no paid profile tiers and no paid promotion on the pages we checked: the account is declared free, and the platform earns from commission.

Path to monetization

Here everything is set out more concretely than on most platforms. The question of commission is answered directly: yes, Kandua takes 20% commission on the labour stated in the quote; it goes towards developing the technology and towards the marketing that brings customers in. The commission is named on the labour part of the quote specifically, not on the whole amount.

The payout timings are named too: if the customer has paid for the work through the built-in payment system, the money is transferred to the pro within 3 working days; transferring a deposit can take the same.

The settlement procedure runs step by step. A quote is drawn up in the app and contains a number, the issue and expiry dates, materials, labour, markup, discount, VAT, a deposit request, notes and terms. Then: if the quote includes a deposit, an invoice for it goes to the customer automatically as soon as they accept the quote, and once the work is complete the pro presses "request invoice for the balance", and the invoice goes to the customer directly. The platform notifies you of a quote being approved and of an invoice being paid with a WhatsApp message.

Refunds go through support and with a restriction on method: refunds are made only to bank accounts, e-wallets are not supported; a refund requires a bank letter confirming the details, and for a refund to someone else's account also a copy of the recipient's identity document.

On the customer's side, matching is free: homeowners get matching and support at no cost, and pay for the work they order.

Tools and automation

There is no public programmatic interface and no developer section on the pages we checked. What the platform does have is a machine-readable index, llms.txt — a file describing the service, the categories, the cities and the sections, prepared to be read by programs. For a guide that is a convenient source, but by its nature it is the platform's own account of itself.

The pro's own tools are listed on the joining page: get more customers, issue professional quotes, accept payments and track expenses and profit, with expense tracking marked as "coming soon". The index repeats the same list and likewise marks expense tracking and accepting payments as features being rolled out.

Separately the platform offers an integration for organisations: corporate and insurance solutions, including claims management, that connect large organisations to Kandua's network of vetted pros. The help centre for pros devotes a separate section to it, «Insurance at Kandua», with 11 articles.

Limits and rules

Who it's for

It suits an electrician or a plumber in Cape Town, Johannesburg or Pretoria who has the qualification, a clean background check and a readiness to work to a transparent quote. There is no need to invest in advertising here: the account is free, leads arrive ready-made, and you pay a percentage on the work completed.

It suits a small service company with insurance and a fleet of vehicles: the profile requirements are designed for a crew, not for a sole trader.

It does not suit those who need an audience and reach: there are no posts, no feed and no followers here — this is a lead channel, not a medium. It does not suit specialists outside the two live categories, or anyone who wants to join right now: intake of new pros is paused. And it does not suit anyone unwilling to hand the platform a fifth of the labour part of the quote.
