Suno

Tool · this deep dive is built from the official pages of the platform itself and of the tools that support it.

Overview

Suno makes songs from a short description or from your own words: "Start with a simple prompt or dive into our pro editing tools". The control declared is detailed — "Steer your style with Voices, Inspo, exclusions, and vocal gender": by voices, by samples for inspiration, by exclusions and by the gender of the vocal.

Further announced are the uploading and recording of your own audio, the rewriting of words, the rearranging of parts of a song and the splitting of the finished piece into tracks (stems). Separately a working environment is named: "Suno Studio — a first-of-its-kind web-based generative audio workstation that combines traditional DAW functionality with AI-powered music creation". All from the homepage.

Which platforms it works with

With none: export to social networks or streaming services is not announced on the tool's pages. Declared are only shared access inside the tool ("Share it with the world") and work in Suno Studio.

Pricing

The prices are from the pricing page, the currency is US dollars.

Pro — "$8/month", with annual payment a saving of "$24". Premier — "$24/month", with annual payment a saving of "$72". Free — "$0/month".

What is free

The free plan is permanent, but with a direct ban on earning.

Free — "$0/month". It includes "Access to v4.5-all", "50 credits renew daily", "No commercial use", "Upload up to 8 min of audio" and a shared creation queue ("Shared creation queue"). Buying extra credits on the free plan is not allowed, and there is no splitting into tracks. On the homepage the same is named differently: "10 free songs, daily… Free forever, no subscription needed".

Restrictions

Free — "50 credits renew daily", 4 simultaneous generations in the shared queue, audio upload up to 8 minutes. Pro — "2,500 credits, refreshes monthly", "10 in a Priority queue", upload "Up to 30 min of audio". Premier — "10,000 credits, refreshes monthly", "10 in a Priority queue", upload up to 30 minutes.

The unit of accounting matters more than the figures: on the free plan the credits are daily and do not accumulate, on the paid ones they are monthly. Buying more is available only to the paid plans; the queue is separated too.

Rights to the output

The rights are divided by plan.

The free plan. The terms say: "you covenant and agree that you will only use Outputs generated from Submissions made by you through the Service solely for your lawful, internal, personal and non-commercial purposes" — what is created on Free may be used only lawfully, internally, personally and non-commercially.

The paid plan. The wording is different: "Suno hereby assigns to you all of its right, title and interest in and to any Output owned by Suno and generated from Submissions made by you through the Service during the term of your paid-tier subscription" — the tool transfers to you all its rights to what is created. The reservation about "during the term of your paid-tier subscription" is worth reading literally: the transfer concerns what is created from your inputs during the period of the paid subscription.

One restriction operates over everything: what is created may not be used "to power, enable or train other artificial intelligence and machine learning models" — training other people's models on Suno's output is forbidden.

Do they train on your data

They do train, and no opt-out is provided for.

Consent is built into the terms: the user warrants that no additional permissions are required "arising out of or related to our use of your Submissions, including to create your Output or your Voice Model and/or to train, develop, fine-tune or otherwise improve the Service and any related artificial intelligence or machine learning models".

The privacy policy confirms the same: "We use certain User Activity Information, Submissions, Interactive Chat Information, and other Content… including to train and enhance the models that power our Services". About voice samples it is said separately: "We use this information to provide and develop our Services, including to train and enhance the models", the storage term being "no longer than three (3) years following your last interaction".

Two circumstances make this section more serious than usual. The first: the uploaded voice samples fall under the training, and the policy itself calls them possible biometric data. The second: a way to opt out neither the terms nor the policy describe — not by a setting, not by a plan.

This does not contradict the previous section: the rights to a song are transferred to a paid subscriber and at the same time the models are trained on their inputs and voice.

How you earn with it

What relates to earning directly is the line between the plans. A song from the free plan is closed to commercial use by the direct text of the terms and by the note "No commercial use". A song made during the period of a paid subscription passes to you along with Suno's rights to it.

Selling music the terms do not forbid; selling it as training material for someone else's AI they do forbid.

What it will not do

Publish a song for you it will not be able to: export to social networks and streaming services the tool does not announce.

To let you earn on the free plan it is not ready: "No commercial use" is a direct note on the pricing page.

To split a song into tracks free of charge it will not allow: stems are not on the Free plan. Buying extra credits without a subscription it does not offer either, and the daily credits on Free do not accumulate.

To forget an uploaded voice at once it does not promise: the storage term is named as "no longer than three (3) years following your last interaction".

To opt out of the models being trained on your inputs and voice it does not permit: an opt-out procedure neither the terms nor the policy describe.

Requirements to mark what is made by AI the tool does not put forward: in the terms there is neither "watermark", nor "provenance", nor "metadata", nor "C2PA" — even though the product is wholly synthetic.

Verified data

The checked data this deep dive rests on.

About the platform

creating songs from a short description or from one's own words: "Start with a simple prompt or dive into our pro editing tools", control of voices, style and exclusions ("Steer your style with Voices, Inspo, exclusions, and vocal gender"), uploading and recording one's own audio, rewriting the words, rearranging parts of the song, splitting into tracks (stems), and also the working environment "Suno Studio — a first-of-its-kind web-based generative audio workstation that combines traditional DAW functionality with AI-powered music creation"; there is a built-in assistant, "Suno Chat"

$10/month — the Pro plan on monthly billing (2500 credits a month, commercial rights to new songs); paid yearly it is shown as $8/month with the note «Saves $24 by billing yearly!», that is, $96 a year; Premier — $30/month monthly and $24/month yearly ($288 a year); the free plan is $0/month, 50 credits a day, «No commercial use»

the monthly price is taken. The switch on the page stands by default at «year» (the corresponding radio button has the checked attribute), so what the eye sees on the page is $8 and $24; the monthly values were taken from that same page's data, the fields monthly_price_usd (10 and 30) and annual_price_usd (96 and 288). Prices in other currencies are given there too, for example EUR 9 and INR 850 a month for Pro

Restrictions

the community guidelines forbid harassment, stalking and doxxing; hatred, real threats of violence, terrorism, graphic violence and cruelty to animals; any exploitation of minors; calls to suicide and self-harm; sexually explicit content and intimate images without consent; selling and advertising prohibited goods; fraud, spam, manipulation of metrics and evading blocks; «deceptive audio presented as real»; uploading someone else's protected material, reproducing existing songs and using a real person's voice or likeness without permission. On voice cloning the terms are stricter than usual: a voice model may be created ONLY from your own voice, verbatim «you expressly agree not to create, or attempt to create, a voice model of another person and you will not upload any Submission that includes an audio recording of another person's voice», and Suno reserves the right to delete a model if it decides the voice is not yours. The terms separately forbid passing the result off as created by another person and using the result to train someone else's AI models. The platform is from the age of 13

a difference by plan: on the free plan the pricing page states «No commercial use», Suno transfers rights in the result only to Pro and Premier subscribers, and even then does not guarantee that copyright arises. The terms: https://suno.com/terms, last revised 26 March 2026

the terms split the rights by plan. The free one: "you covenant and agree that you will only use Outputs generated from Submissions made by you through the Service solely for your lawful, internal, personal and non-commercial purposes". The paid one: "Suno hereby assigns to you all of its right, title and interest in and to any Output owned by Suno and generated from Submissions made by you through the Service during the term of your paid-tier subscription". It is separately stipulated that what is created may not be used "to power, enable or train other artificial intelligence and machine learning models"

on the free plan only personal non-commercial use is allowed

training on what is entered is built into the terms: the user warrants that no additional permissions are required "arising out of or related to our use of your Submissions, including to create your Output or your Voice Model and/or to train, develop, fine-tune or otherwise improve the Service and any related artificial intelligence or machine learning models"; the privacy policy confirms it: "We use certain User Activity Information, Submissions, Interactive Chat Information, and other Content… including to train and enhance the models that power our Services", and as to voice samples — "We use this information to provide and develop our Services, including to train and enhance the models", with a retention period of "no longer than three (3) years following your last interaction"; neither the terms nor the policy describe any opt-out from training

there is no opt-out; the uploaded voice samples, which the policy names as possible biometric data, also fall under training
