인벤 (Inven)
Platform · this deep dive is built from the official pages of the platform itself and of the tools that support it.
Overview
Inven (인벤) is a Korean gaming platform: at one and the same time a registered online news outlet and a set of game communities. It describes itself like this: «Inven is the No. 1 gaming media platform, covering game news across every platform: PC, mobile and console. Fresh news, guides, community and esports — all in one place». The "No. 1" wording is the platform's claim about itself, not the result of an independent measurement.
The structure has two parts. The first is editorial: news, reviews, columns, interviews, video. The second is communities built around specific games; as of the check date the navigation listed sections for Lineage Classic, MapleStory, Lost Ark, FC Online, LoL, WoW, Diablo II and IV (the list is visible in the navigation).
For marketing purposes Inven works like a media outlet rather than a forum: it has an advertising department, a line of ad products and a deck for each of them. Promoting yourself inside the communities, meanwhile, is banned by the user agreement — directly, in a single sentence.
The platform publishes its legal details at the bottom of every page: publication registration number "Gyeonggi A51514", registration date 14 December 2009, publication "Inven (INVEN)", first issued 11 November 2004, publisher Park Kyu-sang, editor Kang Min-woo. The platform operates as a news outlet, not only as a forum.
Who's here
Inven publishes no audience figures on its open pages: no traffic, no member count, no breakdown by game. Data of that kind is kept in the commercial section's decks, which are downloaded as files (the list of decks).
The language is Korean, but the platform has an international arm: the commercial section offers decks in English and Chinese, and among the products it names "global marketing" and "global media partnership decks for North America and Europe, as well as for South America". There is also a separate English-language project, InvenGlobal.
Age. The agreement sets no direct threshold, but it does fix one condition: the company may refuse an application if it is submitted by a child under 14 without the consent of a legal representative.
The legal framework is Korean: disputes are resolved under the laws of the Republic of Korea, and for members with an address abroad the court of first instance is the Seoul Central District Court.
Getting started
Registration is a contractual procedure: the contract is deemed concluded once the applicant agrees to the agreement and the data processing policy, submits an application and the company accepts it.
There are two ways to register, and both require identity verification: through a Naver or KakaoTalk account, or through mobile phone verification, which collects an ID, password, nickname, email, name, date of birth, phone number and the connecting identifier CI; verification is handed to the contractors NICE평가정보, Raonsecure and KakaoBank.
There is no separate business account. For companies there is only one way in — the commercial department. The business page publishes addresses by area: [email protected] — business and partnerships; [email protected] — online advertising; [email protected] — broadcasting and video; [email protected] — brand partnerships; [email protected] — press releases; [email protected] — marketing at the G-Star show. Working hours are weekdays from 10:00 to 18:00.
What you can publish
The formats are the usual ones for a forum and a media outlet: text, images, video, comments, private messages, votes on new releases, photo reports.
The rights to your text stay with you, but with a caveat: copyright in posted material belongs to its author, however the member is deemed to have granted the company and its partners the right to partly modify, translate and edit the material and to use it inside the country and abroad. The company may freely collect, store, modify, distribute and reproduce members' material in order to publish dictionaries, conduct language research and build language databases, and may allow third parties to use it to the same extent.
The agreement lists ten grounds for deleting material without prior notice — from insults and infringement of third-party rights through to breach of article 10 of the agreement. There is also a takedown procedure on a complaint from the injured party: if the company cannot assess the violation itself, or a dispute between the parties is expected, the material is placed under a temporary measure for 10 days.
How to grow
The rule on advertising
It is short and leaves no room for options. Article 10, "Member obligations": «A member may not, without the company's prior consent, use the service to carry out advertising or other activity aimed at making a profit. The company bears no responsibility for the consequences of such activity carried out without prior consent. If such activity has caused the company damage, the member is liable to the company for compensating that damage».
Note the last sentence: this is not about blocking an account, it is about compensating the company's losses. The wording is not about moderation, it is about a lawsuit.
Next to it sits a ban that matters for mailing tools: «transmitting a large volume of information, or transmitting information of an advertising nature, that interferes with the stable operation of the service», and also «impersonating an employee, an administrator or another person connected with the company» and «acts that systematically provoke disputes between members and thereby hinder the development of the community».
Sanctions are described separately: in the event of a breach of the agreement or of interference with the normal operation of the service, the company may without prior notice issue a warning, suspend part of the services, deduct points, suspend use for a fixed term, suspend it indefinitely or terminate the contract.
Legal formats
Everything else is bought. The commercial section lists a line of ad products: «Sajeon-yeyak PICK» (pre-registration), «MPR», «content product with in-game guides», «brand partner», «offer for IT-Inven partners». Among the ad formats is «full-cover branding», with separate guidelines on preparing the material and on setting it up. There is an offline arm too: marketing at the G-Star show and rental of the Enchant studio.
A separate channel is press releases: the intake address [email protected] is listed alongside the others; the outlet is free not to publish what it receives.
Showing ads to a member requires no consent: the services the company provides contain services for promoting advertisers, and the user is deemed to have consented to being shown ads by the very fact of using the service. In the same place the company disclaims responsibility: it does not guarantee the accuracy of advertisers' ads and promotions and is not liable for a member's losses from dealings with them.
There is no rate card on the open pages — all prices sit inside the decks.
Path to monetization
Inven does not pay authors. The agreement contains no share of ad revenue, no tips and no paid subscription to an author.
The only internal "currency" is points, and they are not money. The agreement defines them as «points awarded to each member and varying depending on the degree of activity and use of the service». The rules for handling them are one-sided: the company may award and deduct points; points deducted as a penalty are not restored unless there are special grounds; the points system may change following a change in service policy, and the company gives advance notice of material changes.
Obtaining points by means the company has not approved is banned separately: a member must not use the service or obtain points in a way that affects the stability of the service or that the company has not approved, and must not distribute such methods. Schemes for inflating points are explicitly outside the platform's law here.
There are no thresholds, no statuses and no payouts. Earning money on Inven is possible only on the side of an advertiser or a contractor of the platform, not of an author.
Tools and automation
Inven offers no open interface of its own for publishing. Article 17 of the agreement is called "Service using an API", but it is about something else — about third-party interfaces the platform pulls data from: the company may, with the member's consent, provide a service using an API supplied by a third party, is not liable for its defects or for errors in the data received, and the member may opt out at any time. In practice this is about game statistics from publishers' interfaces, not about being able to publish on Inven programmatically.
Publishing someone else's content is restricted as well: a member may not, without the company's prior consent, copy, modify, translate, publish or distribute material whose copyright belongs to the company, or use it for commercial purposes. We found no scheduling or analytics tools with confirmed support for Inven.
For reports of violations there are separate channels: the policy on protecting minors names the people responsible and their contacts — phone 070-4164-2816 and the address [email protected].
Limits and rules
- Advertising without consent. Banned; the member is liable for damage to the company.
- Bulk and advertising mailings. Banned as interference with the stable operation of the service.
- Age and return. An application from a child under 14 without the consent of a legal representative may be rejected; re-registration is closed for 3 months after a voluntary departure and for a year after the company terminates the contract.
- Rights in material. Authorship stays with you, but the platform gets the right to edit, translate and use material, including for language databases, and to pass that right on to third parties.
- Data retention. After termination — 3 months, and where the company terminates, the CI identifier is kept for a year; by law — records of impressions and advertising 6 months, of contracts 5 years, of consumer complaints 3 years, of visits 3 months.
- Version in force. The agreement applies from 26 June 2025; the company gives notice of changes no later than 7 days in advance, and where a change is disadvantageous to the member — 30 days.
Who it's for
It suits game publishers and developers entering the Korean market: Inven has a ready product line for a launch — from promoting pre-registration to full-cover branding — plus an editorial channel for press releases and a presence at G-Star. It suits companies with international plans and makers of gaming hardware: the platform has separate global marketing and brand partnership arms with their own contacts.
It does not suit organic brand-voice presence in the communities: any profit-making through the service without prior consent is banned, and the stated sanction is compensating the company's damage. It does not suit agencies working through ordinary accounts, or automation: there is no publishing interface of its own, and bulk mailings are banned separately.
