Dvach

Platform · this deep dive is built from the official pages of the platform itself and of the tools that support it.

Overview

Dvach (Два.ч) is a Russian-language imageboard: a collection of themed boards where messages are posted without registration and without an author name. The platform describes itself as a "system of forums where you can talk quickly and freely, where every point of view has a right to exist. There is no registration here and no need to subscribe, although that does not free you from the obligation to follow the rules".

A word on the address first. During our check the 2ch.hk domain returned a redirect to 2ch.org: every page we link to below opened at 2ch.org.

If you work in promotion, the mechanics of this platform matter more than its content. There are no accounts, no followers, no feed and no statistics. The unit of life is a thread on a specific board; new replies push it up, and it sinks when the replies stop. Everything a social media manager normally does — running a profile, gaining followers, watching reach — is technically impossible on Dvach.

Who's here

The platform publishes its own measurements right on the front page: 163 boards open, a total posting speed of 4229, and 716 882 969 posts left over the whole time it has existed. These are the platform's own counters. The page does not explain what "posting speed" means or what units it is counted in; there is no date the numbers were calculated for either — the values change every time the page is refreshed.

The breakdown by category is visible in the open list of boards and their settings served through the API: on the date of our check, of the 163 boards 71 were assigned to the "User-created" category, 35 to "Themes", 13 to "Adult", 11 to "Games", 8 to "Creative work", 7 each to "Miscellaneous" and "Hardware and software", 5 to "Japanese culture" and 3 to "Politics".

The platform does not disclose its audience: the pages we checked carry no visitor numbers, no country breakdown and no languages. The interface language is Russian — the markup of the front page declares lang="ru". Profiles and subscriptions do not exist in the system, so there is nothing inside the platform with which to measure your own reach.

Getting started

There is no registration — that is a built-in property of the platform, not a setting. The rules state anonymity explicitly: "Dvach is an anonymous imageboard. Abuse of tripcodes, avatars or any other means of identifying posters can lead to bans, up to and including permanent ones". The default name on every board we checked is "Anonymous".

The only paid entity that resembles an account is the passcode. The market page describes it like this: the passcode disables the captcha, permits posting from foreign proxies and VPNs, raises the limit to 40 MB per post and up to 8 files, runs for 6 or 12 months from the date of sale or indefinitely, is bought only through a Telegram bot, and comes with no refunds. The page does not name a price. The same page says that an anon with a passcode is in no way different from an anon without one — the passcode gives no visible distinctions, and that the platform itself considers it a "particular form of support and donation".

"Tickets" are sold separately — 10 generations for 220 ₽, 100 for 2000 ₽, 300 for 5000 ₽. They give access to extra generations through the built-in bot, not to posting.

The platform has no business accounts, no verification, no official company pages and no formats "for brands" of any kind.

What you can publish

The technical boundaries are visible in the board settings that the platform serves through the API. On the date of our check: the maximum message length was 15 000 characters on all 163 boards; the maximum attachment size was 40 960 KB (that is, 40 MB) on 155 boards, 20 480 KB on four and 102 400 KB on two; the bump threshold (bump_limit) was 500 posts on 139 boards and 1000 on 20; the file types were jpg, png, gif, webm, mp4, webp, plus embedding a YouTube clip.

What is forbidden is listed by the platform in its general rules. The key part for our reader: "Malicious links and advertising in all its forms are unwelcome, including advertising for profit, referral links, streams, donations and panhandling". From the same page: "Do not use scheduling tools"; "Wipes, spam and evading the spam list are forbidden"; "Deanonymization, publishing personal data and aggressive harassment (bullying) are unwelcome"; "Impersonating a moderator or spreading information on behalf of the administration/moderation team is forbidden". There is an age restriction as well: the site is declared a resource for people over 18.

How to grow

There is nothing to grow here in the usual sense: no subscriptions, no recommendations, no dashboard with statistics and no advertising account. A post lives exactly as long as other participants keep it alive with replies, and it is not tied to its author.

The only place where posting your own resource is provided for by the rules rather than forbidden by them is the /ch/ board. Its description in the board list reads: "A board for promoting your own conferences and chats. Be sure to give the name and description of the conference/chat", and the general rules point in the same direction: "for advertising conferences and chats there is the /ch/ board". Everything else falls under the general advertising ban quoted above.

The practical conclusion is simple: if your plan is "show up and talk about the product", the platform answers with a rule, not a rate card. We do not describe or recommend ways around the ban.

Path to monetization

The platform does not pay authors. There is no share of advertising revenue, no donations to authors, no paid subscriptions to a thread or a board on any page we checked — and there cannot be, since the author is anonymous and cannot be identified. What is more, donations and panhandling are listed among the things that are "unwelcome".

Money on the platform moves in the opposite direction: the user pays for a passcode and for tickets, and the platform openly calls the passcode a form of support and donation to the resource.

Tools and automation

The platform has an open programming interface. The specification is published as OpenAPI 3.0.3, version 1.0.31, contact [email protected]. It describes methods for getting the list of boards and their settings, getting information about a thread, getting new posts in a thread after a given number and getting a single post, as well as /user/posting, /user/report, /user/passlogin, /api/like, /api/dislike and a group of captcha methods.

Note a contradiction the platform does not resolve: the specification contains a publishing method, yet the rules forbid scheduling tools. We treat the rule as the one in force, not the existence of the method; this article contains no ways of bypassing bot protection.

Mobile clients are listed separately by the platform: the "Mobile clients" page names Dashchan and its fork Dashchan Continued, iChan, Overchan and Kuroba — these are third-party apps for reading and posting, not promotion services.

Limits and rules

Who it's for

As a promotion channel — for practically no one. Advertising is forbidden by the rules, scheduling is forbidden, there is no account and no statistics, and the platform offers no paid placement. The only narrow exception is announcing your own chat or conference on the /ch/ board, and that is exactly one scenario, not a strategy.

The platform can be useful as a source of observations: themed boards show what people in a specific niche talk about and in what words, and that is available without registration and without signing in. For a task like this there is an open read-only API.

It is not for you if you need measurable reach, a recognizable brand name, an advertising account or even the ability to reply on behalf of a company: none of that is provided for on the platform.
